Staying active is so important for your health, but it doesn’t always produce the weight loss results we want. Kamala H. learned firsthand how much a healthy diet affects not just weight, but overall health and energy levels, too.
What inspired you to seek out a personal nutritionist?
For two years prior to finding Resolute Weight Loss, I had been killing myself doing a very intense workout program 5 to 6 days a week. As time went on, I kept getting more and more injuries. I’m a healthcare worker, and so I had always heard that losing weight was 80 percent diet and 20 percent exercise… so I decided to search for a nutritionist and try something different.
Tell us about your personal weight loss journey: what was your goal, and have you made progress toward it?
I was someone who didn’t own a scale or even know how much I weighed when I started the program. But, I had made up my mind that I wanted to lose approximately 30 pounds. Over the course of six months, I was able to lose 30 pounds and drop from a size 10 to a size 2 . . . and the kicker was I didn’t feel deprived or restricted.
What was the hardest aspect to get used to with your nutrition plan? What foods, meals, or situations were most difficult at first?
The hardest aspect of the diet for me was actually eating consistently. My workday is typically back to back meetings. Before starting the program, I didn’t plan or prep meals, so I would just not eat. Kelly’s menus are so easy to prep and follow, which allows me to really stick to my personal plan throughout the week.
Because I am a known sweet addict, I thought the withdrawal was going to be awful. But, those cravings were substituted with healthy snacks and fruit.
How has your relationship to food and cooking changed since working with a personal nutritionist?
I used to eat out 3 to 4 days a week. Now, the majority of my meals are fresh and prepared by me. With Kelly’s support, I have still been able to splurge at restaurants for special occasions, but you begin to learn that your at-home cooking actually tastes so much better. I now can eyeball my portions and make healthy food choices when out-to-eat, in order to stay on plan.
What are some of your favorite, on-plan recipes?
For the first 4 months of my program, I never had the same recipe for lunch or dinner!
Some of my favorites include mustard pork chop, stuffed portabella mushrooms, turkey guacamole wrap, seared scallops, creamy lentils. . . the list goes on.
Besides weight loss, what other benefits have you experienced with a healthier diet?
Because of my weight loss not only do I look better, but I feel better. I have a high-stress job and the weight loss has helped me to get better sleep. Also, exercising is not nearly as painful as it was before. I am so delighted to have found Kelly and truly could not have made this journey without her personalized meal plans and support.
